About Dr. Spurgeon

Dr. Ellen Spurgeon is a postdoctoral fellow with interests in sexual health, trauma, sleep, and couples therapy. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings across the Bay Area and has experience working with a wide range of presenting concerns, including depression, anxiety, panic disorder, PTSD, childhood and sexual trauma, chronic pain, and substance use disorders. She enjoys working with LGBTQ+ populations and values the importance of cultural humility as part of the therapeutic process. She is passionate about creating a safe and collaborative environment from which individuals can work toward growth and healing at their own pace. Dr. Spurgeon works from several modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy.

Dr. Spurgeon enjoys seeing individual adults and couples in San Francisco, as well as via video medicine across the state of California.

Dr. Spurgeon completed her predoctoral internship at the VA Salt Lake City Healthcare System. She received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the PGSP-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium. Her dissertation explored how to foster collaboration and facilitate empathic growth, a continued area of interest.
